The Message not the Man

The first time I saw the Dodge Famer commercial I was blown away.  I was so excited how positive it was!  I recognized the voice right off the bat!  I like a lot of you out there grew up listening to him on the radio.  His voice brings me back to my parent’s house.  There I am getting ready for school in the morning.  My dad would be in the kitchen frying eggs with the radio on waiting for the rest of the story.
Later I was reading other blog posts about the commercial and I ran across one that stated Paul Harvey was an anti-animal agriculture activist.  Well I couldn’t believe that so I googled it. I found several things that mentioned his love of animals. He had spoken out on several issues and was a member of HSUS and PETA.
I was conflicted for a second. It was almost like a bit of a buzz kill for lack of a better words.   But the more I thought about it the more I realized that it wasn’t the fact it was Paul Harvey’s voice in the commercial that gave it meaning.  It was the words, the images, the overall message that had moved me.
At the end of the day it’s about the message not the man.

  1. Totally agree. And the fact that the message was brought from a farm-supporting company rather than something like HSUS or PETA trying to tell our story for us.

  2. It's funny, he actually said this during a National FFA Convention. It's also funny that when I went to watch it on youtube I looked at the comments. All people talk about it the fact that God was mentioned, some of the comments are just terrible. This was an amazing commercial, and I'm proud that to be a farmers daughter.
